WiP Wed (01/29/25)

Good morning, friends! How's your week going? Staying glued to the news, or staying away from the news? If you're anything like me, it's a little of both. But let's talk about what we're doing, not what we're worried about other people doing.

Oh! Speaking of doing things, I'm doing something out of town tomorrow night. I'll be out of the studio Thursday and Friday, but I've set some things to post while I'm gone.

In ceramics, I'm glazing some bisque (a few new things, a few restocks) and I'm handbuilding some butter dishes. I'm also having a little trouble with my kiln; I suspect I either need to replace the thermocouple (easy) or replace the heating coils (fiddly, but not overly hard... just time consuming). The top shelf - I usually fire four shelves - isn't firing as hot, and I'm getting an FTH (Failure To Heat) error code. Fun times.

In Patreon, I just realized that today is the 29th and there are a few things I haven't done; I never sent out postcards this month (I'll be doing that in about an hour, look for them to start hitting your mailboxes in three or four days) and I haven't finished a chapter. I feel guilty about that, but ... is anyone even reading it? I rarely get any feedback, so I don't really know. Will you miss it if I skip this month, maybe do two in February? Or a chapter, and a bonus short story? Also, because of the above mentioned kiln problems, I just pulled the semi-successful ceramics out of the kiln this morning. They'll be in the mail tomorrow. Ugh. What a year January has been.

Behind the scenes I finished my 2024 Q4 sales tax... now it's about time for me to start working on TAXES taxes. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee. I'm also still (yes, still) trying to straighten up my studio. A lot of times in the last couple of years, every time I've needed to do something and there's a pile of stuff in my way, I just move the pile. And add to it later. And keep moving the pile. So this week, at least once a day when something is in my way, I actually clean/sort/put away/do something with the stuff. It's time consuming and I don't like that it's taking me away from the things I want to be doing, but it's also necessary and I can't keep just moving piles of stuff around my studio when I need to work. I need to actually clean that stuff up so it's not in my way!

What I’m reading/watching/listening to... I picked up Bishop Mariann Budde's book, "How We Learn to be Brave," and it's thoughtful and inspiring. I very much recommend it, especially for people trying to speak the truth even when their voice shakes.

That's about it for me this week. How are you? Where's your head? Where's your attention going? How's your heart? Are you feeling rested, or off balance? Are you reading or watching anything you'd recommend? Making anything that's setting your creative soul on fire? Tell me about your week!
