Acorn candle holder
Continuing with my candle-holder theme, here is the Acorn. I have always found acorns to be a little magical. I have no idea why; perhaps I read a fairy tale as a child in which there was something about an acorn, or used to think Borrowers could use the caps as bowls...? Anyway, I am always looking for acorn things to make, and I decided that as I've had this piece in before as a pencil cup, and a small planter... maybe I should do the cutouts and offer it as a candle holder (a note that glaze does tend to run, and fill up some of the smaller cutouts, giving the piece almost a stained-glass window effect in some spots).
This piece was made using non-toxic glazes and can be hand-washed with hot soapy water or even run through the dishwasher.

I learned ceramics like an old-school apprentice, at the feet of my grandmother who had a studio in the 1950s and 1960s, and many of the pieces I make are from now-vintage molds that she bought then. My pieces are unique, hand painted, and proudly made in my own home studio.
