Pine Cone plaque in Mediterranean Olive

  • $40.00

Ever since I was a child, I've liked pine cones. An odd thing to like, maybe; but the pine cones where I lived as a young child were unnaturally large, even for a child's viewpoint, and we would use them as starters in our wood-burning stove. I love the smell, and the satisfying pop of the fire. To this day, pine cones make me think of my childhood, and so I snatched up this mold the minute I saw it.

This piece would obviously be perfect for a nature lover, someone else who also loves or is fascinated by pine cones, or just someone who appreciates different types of art (or should I say, art done differently).

This piece (and its sister piece, with acorns) is open on the back and could easily be hung on the wall with a nail.

I learned ceramics like an old-school apprentice, at the feet of my grandmother who had a studio in the 1950s and 1960s, and many of the pieces I make are from now-vintage molds that she bought then. My pieces are unique, hand painted, and proudly made in my own home studio. I'm excited to have recently come into this mold, which is unfortunately not marked with the maker nor the year made. I have nothing to base this on but I'm guessing from other slipcasting mold research that I've done, that this might be from the 1970s.
