September Office Hours

Posted by A. Lorena Haldeman on

Hey, all! I have a lot going on in September so I wanted to just put it all into a blog post to try to make it easy for people to find out when I'm working and not working this month. Obviously I am in the "office" right now (by "office" I mean "studio" but in thinking about all this it made me feel like a teacher at the start of a new semester, posting office hours). I will be in the studio today and tomorrow, doing work, answering emails, and getting packages out. I will be out of the...

Why everyone and their sister's best friend's cousin's boyfriend's uncle is emailing you about updated Privacy Policies

Let's talk about the GDPR. I know, right? WTF? GDPR? Is that related to the FBI? CIA? OMG! BBQ! ;aldskfad;slkas;dfk!!!!! Wait, first - do I need to tell you that I'm not a lawyer? I'm not. Don't take this as legal advice. This is only to try to help you wrap your head around why you suddenly have 16,000 unread emails in your inbox about Data Protection and Privacy. GDPR = General Data Protection Regulation, and in plain English that means that online, there are generalized bits of personal online data that are now protected in the EU. It covers...

March Meet the Maker 2018: Days 26-31

Need to catch up? Days 1-5; days 6-10; days 11-15; days 16-20; days 21-25. March Meet the Maker Day 26: Books, Blogs, and Podcasts. Yes, please! Anything by Sheri Tepper; Jane Yolen; Ursula LeGuin; Charles DeLint; Roger Zelazny; Tana French; Jonathan Carroll; Elizabeth Moon; or those Haldeman boys. Blogs? Well, there's mine, of course, but also I, Asshole; Book View Cafe; Myth & Moor; and Wave Without a Shore....

Need to catch up? Days 1-5; days 6-10; days 11-15; days 16-20. March Meet the Maker Day 22: Sketchbook & Lists. Well, I don't sketch, really, but I have lists out the wazoo. And I just so happen to be pouring over previous planners right now looking for some information I hid from myself, so here's a shot of what my lists look like. There are a couple of "sketches" there, and I use that term super loosely. One thing I do with yarn, when I'm doing multi-colors - especially complicated ones - is that I draw out the skein and then chart...

March Meet the Maker 2018: Days 16-20

Need to catch up? Days 1-5; days 6-10; days 11-15. March Meet the Maker Day 16: Helper. (I skipped yesterday, "Boomerang", which is a free app I've been thinking about learning but this is not the best week to teach an old dog new tricks...) I get a lot of help. Well. "help". I mean, sometimes I do get actual real help, from friends who will come over sometimes when I'm swamped, to wind yarn or glaze simple ceramics for me. But most of the time this is the kind of help I get. My "staff" consists of two house...
